A Statewide Milestone

On August 3, 2026, the Connecticut Nurse Wellness Project reached a milestone that will forever be part of its history.

Today, Governor Ned Lamont issued an official proclamation recognizing August 8, 2026, as Connecticut Nurse Mental Health & Well-Being Day.

While gubernatorial proclamations are often viewed as ceremonial, this recognition carries far greater significance. It represents an acknowledgment by the State of Connecticut that the mental health and well-being of nurses matter—not only to the nursing profession, but to every patient, family, healthcare organization, and community that depends on nurses each day.

Months of Purposeful Work

This proclamation did not emerge from a single event. It reflects months of purposeful work, collaboration, and listening.

Over the past year, the Connecticut Nurse Wellness Project has united nurses, educators, healthcare organizations, professional associations, and community partners around one shared question: How can we build a healthier, more sustainable future for Connecticut's nursing workforce?

That journey led to Connecticut's first statewide nurse wellness survey, providing one of the most comprehensive pictures of nurse mental health and well-being ever collected in our state. More importantly, the findings became the catalyst for action—not simply another report documenting challenges, but the foundation for building solutions.

Recognizing a Movement

The proclamation recognizes more than a day on the calendar. It recognizes a movement.

A movement grounded in the belief that supporting nurses is essential to strengthening healthcare itself.

Rather than announcing this milestone immediately, the Connecticut Nurse Wellness Project intentionally chose to preserve this moment and formally recognize it on August 8, 2026. On that day, nurses, healthcare leaders, educators, policymakers, and community partners will gather to unveil the Connecticut State of Nurse Wellness Survey findings and launch the Connecticut Nurse Wellness Action Plan—transforming recognition into action.

Recognition. Evidence. Action.

From a communications perspective, this moment is most meaningful when viewed as a complete story: Recognition. Evidence. Action.

  • Recognition. The proclamation affirms that nurse mental health matters.
  • Evidence. The statewide survey demonstrates why it matters.
  • Action. The action plan outlines what comes next.

A New Chapter

Together, these milestones represent a new chapter in Connecticut's commitment to caring for those who care for others.

History is often remembered by the public announcement. Yet the true beginning occurs quietly—in the moments when a vision is validated, a commitment is affirmed, and a movement takes another step forward.

Today was one of those moments.

For the Connecticut Nurse Wellness Project, August 3, 2026, will always be remembered as the day Connecticut officially recognized that the mental health and well-being of nurses deserve statewide attention, visibility, and action.

It is our hope that this proclamation will serve not as the culmination of an effort, but as the beginning of sustained investment in the people who form the backbone of our healthcare system.

Because when nurses thrive, healthcare thrives.
